I love the start of a new year.
As much as I adore the holidays, there is something so refreshing about taking down all the decorations, getting back into a normal work and school routine, and thinking about what you want to accomplish in the new year.
For my entire childhood, setting goals for the new year was a huge part of our family culture.
My dad printed out little spreadsheets for us to fill in with different goals about money, school, health, hobbies, and relationships. We’d post them up on our bulletin boards and bring them out once a month or so to make sure we were staying on track.
Our little girls (ages 5, 3, and 9 months) are a little young for that kind of really structured goal-setting, but I still wanted our family to have a chance to talk through what we wanted to accomplish in 2017.
So, I made these simple printables so that my girls (and the grown-ups!) could jot down a few goals and think about the new year and what will help us make it a great year for everyone.

Plus, since one of my goals is to spend more quality time as a family, this is a great way to kick off the New Year. It requires basically no prep and is a fun way to have interesting conversations.
Just print off the sheets, grab some pens and sit down together to get to work.
Even as an adult, it’s fun to think through what I’d like to read or visit or learn during the year, and it’s especially darling to see what children come up with.
When you’ve finished, you can share your answers and then post them somewhere that you can see them all year long.
Keep a highlighter handy and you can mark goals off as you accomplish them.
Here’s to a great year!
