Homemade Salted Chocolate Popsicles

Today our food contributor Jennifer is here with a scrumptious salty/sweet treat that I know you’re going to love.

Helpful Hint: get yourself a Zoku Quick Pop Maker to whip up all sorts of popsicles (both healthy and not so much) in just 7 minutes – no waiting for them to freeze! We absolutely love ours.

I can feel the days of frozen summer treats coming!

I had the most amazingly delicious salted chocolate popsicle recently and couldn’t wait to try to recreate it at home.  It was reminiscent of a fudgesicle but somehow better – more complex, more “adult” in flavor. The version I came up with has all that complexity that makes it perfect for adults but it’s still sure to appeal to your little tasters as well.  It is, after all, still a chocolate popsicle.

Adding a little extra salt and just the tiniest dash of cinnamon are the secret ingredients here but, lucky for you, I’m not a very good secret keeper when it comes to recipes.

The mixture to make these popsicles comes together super fast – like 5 minutes fast – and the finished treat is so creamy and richly flavored it’s almost like an ice cream pop.

Why not whip up a batch to celebrate the last days of summer and treat yourself and your wee ones?

Salted chocolate popsicles aka grown up fudsicles

Salted Chocolate Popsicles (with a hint of Cinnamon)

Ingredients

makes 6 popsicles

  • 2 tbsp. semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1 tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp. kosher salt
  • small dash ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 c. whole milk
  • 1/2 c. heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Put chocolate chips, sugar, cornstarch, cocoa powder, salt, and cinnamon in a small saucepan and stir over medium heat until the chocolate chips have melted. Add the milk, cream and vanilla and cook until the mixture has thickened slightly.
  2. Let cool slightly then pour into popsicle molds. (These are a great budget-friendly option and these round versions are extra fun). I used a measuring cup with a pouring lip to make this easier).
  3. Place in freezer until solid – several hours or overnight.
  4. Remove from molds and enjoy!
