3 Favorite Finds for September!

I know it’s not quite September yet guys but Pumpkin Spice Everything has already hit the shelves so I’m gonna jump the gun too!

This month I’ve got a couple of fancy electronic gadgets and a cookbook– all of which I can’t wait to start using.

#1 Buddyphones WAVE

Over the summer my 2nd grade daughter has gotten super into audiobooks (especially Harry Potter). The bibliophile in me is absolutely jumping for joy over this development.

Not only do I love, love that she seems to have inherited my passion for reading, but it’s also been super helpful for her to have an activity that she can fall back on when each of the kids need a little quiet time (i.e. it’s the end of summer, everybody is on everybody else’s nerves and we all just need to be on our own for a bit).

The audiologist in me, though, does worry about her hearing every time she puts on a pair of headphones that I don’t control the volume on.

(Side note: according to the Journal of Pediatrics 12.5% of kids suffer from loss of hearing as a result of using earphones turned to a high volume.)

This is why we gifted our daughter these incredibly cute unicorn-themed Buddyphones Wave for her birthday this summer.

She loved them as soon as she clamped her eyes on the unicorns on the earpieces and rainbow headband but she was even more excited when she saw how much she could move around her room while listening with their 10 meter wireless range and 24 hour battery life.

What makes these headphones completely worth the higher price point for me, though, is the built in limits on volume levels so that I can feel confident that she’s not permanently damaging her hearing.

The way they do it is really smart too. It’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead there’s Toddler Mode, Kids Mode, Travel (airplane) Mode, and Study Mode. So smart!

The Buddyphones Wave are also really durable in that they easily fold up, have a cute storage case, and are even waterproof.

My 4th grade son’s birthday is coming up next month and he’s already angling for a set of his own. (Yay for cool stuff the kids want that won’t clutter up my house!)

#2 Nixplay Digital Frames

Next up, is the super cool Nixplay Digital Frame that I just gifted my mom for her 60th birthday. I sent this off in the mail yesterday and she just called me gushing about how it was “the best present I could have sent her”.

I know she’s going to love it for a few reasons. First and foremost, is how incredibly easy it is. My mom (like many grandparents) LOVES displaying current pictures of her family but hates trying to figure out technology.

What makes this digital frame stand out from all the rest is that I was able to set it up for her before sending it off and I can use the Nixplay app on my phone to send new pics of the grandkids DIRECTLY TO HER FRAME.

This is kinda ground-breaking because in the past I’ve sent pics to my mom but that’s as far as they’ve gotten. Instead of ending up on her old-school digital frame, they just sat on her phone.

So, before I sent off the frame, not only did I set up an account for her and upload some pics from my sister’s wedding, I also uploaded the app to my phone.

Now any time I snap a cute shot of my kids, its just a few clicks and – BOOM – it magically appears on the Nixplay Digital Frame in her house (most likely displayed in the kitchen). How cool is that?!

The frame has lots of other fabulous features too, including the ability to play back video, lots of interesting transitions between photos, tons of gorgeous frame options, and even compatibility with Alexa. (You can see the exact framed I gifted my mom here.)

This one is a gift that is sure to please– and, also, I want one too.

#3 The Ultimate Kids’ Cookbook: Fun One-Pot Recipes Your Whole Family Will Love!

Not only is Tiffany Dahle a blogger friend and a veritable genius when it comes to cooking with kids, she’s also the author of one of the most popular food posts of all time on MPMK.

So I jumped at the chance when she asked if I’d like to review her brand new book, The Ultimate Kids’ Cookbook: Fun One-Pot Meals Your Whole Family Will Love!

As summer comes to an end and our schedule once again starts to fill up with school and activities, I’ve been thinking about ways to steal some more one-on-one time with each of my kids. As a mom of three, though, that’s a lot easier said than done.

In coming up with a plan, I took each of my kids back-to-school shopping and asked them how they thought we should find some one-on-one time.

My daughter didn’t hesitate, she wanted to start cooking with me. So this fall my goal is to cook one dinner a week with her.

And as if the heavens were listening, not 24 hours later this fabulous book showed up in our mailbox.

What I love most about this book? It’s written in a voice speaking to the child, not the parent. That alone is SO empowering for my daughter.

It’s also written at the perfect level for kids, teaching them simple techniques in a very approachable way instead of assuming they know cooking basics like how to flip food with a spatula (something, lets be honest, I still struggle with myself at times).

And, of course, the food is delicious and the photographs are gorgeous. This is going to be my new birthday party gift go-to for all the kids in our life.
