Thank you First Alert for sponsoring this post. First Alert 10-year sealed battery alarms offer hassle-free protection that helps keep your home and family protected for a decade! #LiveWithA10
When we sold our last house 5 years ago, we had to jump through a lot of hoops to get through the process of listing, appraisal, inspection, and closing. One of the things that stuck in my mind the most was our real estate agent telling us we had to make sure to have both smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms in our home to pass inspection.
I was taken aback. I had heard of carbon monoxide alarms, and knew we should have some, but I had no idea it was actually the law in our state!
Turns out, all states have legislation requiring smoke alarms, many require carbon monoxide alarms, and states like New York and New Jersey even have legislation that just went, or will go, into effect requiring 10-year sealed battery alarms. (Not sure what a sealed battery alarm is? I’ll get to that in just a minute.)
First, though, you can check the requirements in your state here.
Back to 5 years ago… We already had proper smoke alarms so we purchased a few carbon monoxide alarms and sailed through our home inspection. And you better believe one of the first things we did upon moving into our forever home was to install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms there too.
Everything was great for a few months until the low battery alarms started beeping all the time. I would change them and think I’d dealt with the issue, only to have another alarm start beeping again a few weeks later. It was so frustrating that I ultimately just unplugged the alarms all together.
Oh, how I wish I’d known about the First Alert 10-Year Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm back then! Not only is it a simple 2-in-1 solution for both smoke and carbon monoxide detection, the built-in 10-year lithium-ion battery provides continuous power, with no need to ever worry about changing the battery for an entire decade!
This is great for so many reasons. Not the least of which is the savings; no costly battery replacements for the life of the alarm! Of course, there’s also no more late night low battery chips to deal with (welcome back, sanity) and the 10-Year Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Voice Alerts will even tell you the type and location of danger in your home.
I feel so guilty about the time we went without proper carbon monoxide alarms and I’m so glad I don’t have to worry about it any more thanks to First Alert. Now I’ve set it and forgotten it for 10 years (and when the batteries do finally need to be replaced the alarms will give me a handy End-of-life warning).
